Veuve Clicquot Women's Regatta Postponed
PHILIP H.
BRADY
November 11, 2001
Dear Members
of the St. Thomas Yacht Club and the Sailing Community:
I have today
postponed the 15th Annual Veuve Clicquot Womens Regatta until
early January due to a lack of entrants at this time. Summer Westman
and Louri Lynn Throgmorton have scheduling conflicts that will prevent
them from chairing the postponed event. However, Verian Aguillar
has graciously consented to step in and direct the event.
The issue
of an appropriate age limit will be raised again at the November
20th meeting of the Board of Governors and I shall again strongly
recommend to the Board that the age limit be 15. The revised Notice
of Race and Sailing Instructions will be published shortly.
We regret
any inconvenience this postponement may have caused our entrants,
volunteers and generous sponsors and it is our sincere wish that
you participate in the delayed Regatta.
Sincerely,
Philip H. Brady

Sunsail Announces
the Winners of the "Why I Will Always Sail Writing Contest"
Annapolis,
MD- September 25, 2001
Sunsail, the world's largest sailing vacation company, in conjunction
with Performance Sailcraft, Douglas Gill, West Marine and the US
Sailing Association, announced the "Why I Will Always Sail"
writing contest winners during an Awards Ceremony held at the United
States Sailboat Show, Annapolis, MD.
The writing
contest was designed to increase kids' interest and enthusiasm for
sailing by inviting them to express why they will always sail. Over
500 wonderful essays were received from kids nationwide. Excerpts
from some of the winners include:
"Have
you ever had a song stuck in your mind? That's what happens every
time I go sailing. Sailing is a piece of music that is stuck in
my head, and that is why I will always sail."
--Timothy Noble, Rocheport, MO age 10
"Learning
how to sail shows me that if I can't do something right away, I
can keep trying until I get it right."
--Courney McKinnon, Winthrop, MA age 10
"Besides
the friendships and fun, it has taught me many of the important
lessons for life and has prepared me for the challenges of tomorrow."
--Maureen Gibbons, Langhorne, PA age 18
"I
love sailing because it gives me time with my dad."
--Laura Hobson, Pacific Grove, CA age 16
