Sound Race re-scheduled for November 10th,
2002.

Fleet
- Jim Jamison
Ron Smith
has done an excellent job of keeping our moorings in good shape.
If anyone has a problem, please put your request in writing
and addressed to my attention. We are currently working on cleaning
up the dry storage and making it better for all who use this
area.
We are currently
considering the design and construction of a dinghy
storage area near the dock. This addition should help manage
the storage area and improve the overall appearance of the Club.

IC-24
- Bill Canfield
The boats are
currently out of the water for the hurricane season and
scheduled to go back in the first week of November.
This past season was a
very active one for this new fleet. Next year is looking to
be even fuller and more exciting. Our popular Friday night summer
series have added a great deal of excitement, revenue, and interest
to the summer Happy Hour at the Club.
Our Fleet
currently numbers ten boats and should grow to thirteen
before this year is over. An Owners Meeting
is being scheduled for the 10th of October at 6:00 pm
at STYC to finalize a schedule for next year. Planned events
will include our successful Friday night summer series, STYC
regattas including Rolex, New Years Day Commodores Race and
a
Sunday series in the early spring. New events that we are incorporating
are a team racing regatta, a Board of Directors/Flag Officers
race and a youth regatta using IC-24's.
Our fleet
is also committed to getting more club members, of all ages,
sailing and trained in racing. Look for news of Saturday Classes
in Nov. and Dec. to achieve these goals in conjunction with
the Junior Programs already planned for this time frame. Rules
seminars and race committee training sponsored by this fleet
are also open to all Club members. If members are interested
in learning how to run a race or participate in
helping to run races, we would be happy to get you involved
in our training programs. Please let us know. If you are now
involved in this great fleet of boats and want to learn more
about them or want to get involved in sailing, please stop by
our meeting on the 10th of October.
Tennis
- Joe Hosie
Hit The Ball !!
"Let's
revive club spirit for tennis and maximize the use of our courts."
With that
direction, Commodore Bill Shoemaker recently asked Joe Hosie
to head up a tennis committee. Several member players have agreed
to help Joe out and build a strong base for more action and
fun on our courts. These include Neil Prior, Aura Bragg, Judge
Tom Moore, Meagan Firestone, and Bill Carlson.
Our initial
goals will be to re-institute an evening mixer, build a women's
program, improve court maintenance, and construct a useful roster
of tennis playing members.
All members
wanting to express their interest in an improved STYC tennis
program are encouraged to discuss ideas with one of the committee
members and attend a Tennis Committee Meeting
at 6:15 pm October 24th, 2002 on the bleachers
by Court #1

Finance
and Insurance - Tammy Waters
Another
fiscal year is just about finished. The Yacht Club looks great
with all the improvements completed by the staff.
Looking
into next year, we have to acknowledge some increases in expenses.
The insurance premiums are increasing due to 9/11 (an estimated
20%-25%) and the general operating costs increase 2%-3% per
year. It has been three consecutive years that there has not
been an increase in Member Dues. Therefore, to cover these increases,
the Board of Directors at the September meeting approved
to increase dues by 5%.
There is
also an increase in mooring fees to offset expenses for the
launch and the mooring maintenance contract. This contract is
working out great; Ron is doing a professional job at a reasonable
cost. Mooring fees have been the same at least eight years.
The mooring fee will increase by 25 cent a foot.
On a brighter
note, the SBA assessment is decreasing. Due to an increase in
membership, the SBA assessment will decrease to $65.00
vs. $70.00.
You should
be receiving your invoices in the mail shortly. Please submit
payment on a timely basis. Remember, you can pay by credit card
!
