mamagers report 9/2

Posted by canfield in Untagged

Hi all,
Well most of us survived Earl with little damage that a broom and a mop could not fix but as you are all aware we are far from finished with our hurricane season.
Gaston is out there and already named in about the same position as Earl was at the same stage of development. The forecasters are not making strong predictions but it definitely has a more southern tract than Earl and is moving slowly. Should feel its effects early next week.
We are planning on keeping the club battened down for now but we will move some furniture out on the deck so we can have our usually Friday night Happy Hour.  You can at least get out of the house and enjoy a grilled hamburger, steak, fish or piece of chicken in a comfortable environment.
The mooring field will be opened on Friday if you feel a strong need to come back to STYC but launch service will be limited to our small dinghies until Gaston passes us by. If you do return there is no guarantee that we will not be closing the field again as early as Sunday or Monday. Our advice is stay put for a bit longer!

This Sunday we will be holding a scaled down version of our Beach Olympics from 1pm till 4 pm. Beach games galore including horse shoes, tug of war, 3 legged races etc. The grill will be going full bore with some burgers and dogs. Sorry no water sports this year.
Come out and celebrate labor day in a traditional fashion.
See you at the Club

"wow….how exciting for Ian and the Virgin Islands mon…both Peter & I have been following his results since his first OCS (is that a Barrows thing? ;-) result.

Hi all
As many of you have heard we are going to be enlarging the club kitchen that will cause some lessening of food service for a few weeks. We feel this is long past due upgrade as the food service at the club has expanded over the years but little has been done to the limited cooking facilities. During this period the bar service will be unaffected and regular hours will be kept.
After Happy Hour on the 20th of August Dinners and Sunday Brunches will not be served until the opening of the new kitchen on Friday Oct. 1 and Sunday Oct 3 for Brunch.
Doing this 5 week period the Galley will be offering limited lunch service Monday through Sunday with cold cuts, a single hot dish and some grill your own dishes. We thank you all for your patience doing this period and feel even with the limited service we will still be a great place to have lunch by the sea.
Last week for camp so things should quiet down a bit when you visit the club. We had a great year and introduced a lot of kids to sailing. Thanks to Karen Coffelt for her involvement in keeping all on course and great group of counselors.
It looks like the last of the African dust has cleared away which really opens the runway for the beginning of our real hurricane season. Please keep the weather in mind if you are traveling and have a boat on a mooring at the Club. Make sure someone is responsible to help move it to safety. We will be taking down the awning for some repairs the last week in August.
See you at the club

Hi all
A few quick notes -
From now through the end of October the Club bar will be closed on Monday for all services. There will be no ice, soft drinks, Ice cream, beer, water, liquor or other products available on Monday. No exceptions! Please plan accordingly!! Launch service will not be affected.
This Sunday, because of the Opti event, we will not be serving our regular brunch. We will have a limited sandwich menu and beginning at 12:30 a ham, turkey, mashed potatoes and salad buffet available to all members for $15 and $10 for kids. The award ceremony for the event will be at 2:30.
We are continuing to capture our history and are in need of photographs depicting club events from the past 50 years. Please get any photographs you feel would be of interest to either myself or Margo Bachman as soon as possible. They will be returned to you.
This is an extremely important project for the club and it would be a shame to allow our history to disappear when we have opportunity to preserve it. We do, however, need your help. So please dig deep through your drawers.
The first 4 weeks of camp are full and others are rapidly filling up - if you intend to enroll any one in our club camp please contact me today!
Thanks Bill

Hi all,
Well its that time of year when most of the snow birds start departing and all quiets down a bit.
Thanks again to the many volunteers that helped at the International Rolex Regatta. Many considered it one of the best. Whatever the case it does not happen without the many hours that members and friends give to make it all run smoothly.
This year the Kirk Grybowski Award went to Jan Robinson as the outstanding volunteer. Jan set an all time record for logo wear sales this year at the regatta
The transition in our concessionaire has come off very smoothly. Ched Sharpless was able to step in a month early to keep us well dined and has kept our thirsts well quenched. The only glitz is as expected this Friday night when Ched and his team are conflicted with other events. How about the members get involved and get a Pot Luck going.
Ched will supply a few items to start the ball rolling but anyone who wants to eat that evening at Happy Hour should bring a dish of some sort. Doesn't matter too much! Bring a family favorite or some chips and dip.
There will be no charge for food other than what edible fare you contribute. Get involved, have some fun and join us for an "old fashion happy hour" at STYC.
Congratulations to the Antilles Sailing Team who have won the southeast regionals in both team racing and fleet racing the past two weekends in Ga. and Fl. The team led by their capable coach Kim Murtha now head of to Seattle and Stanford for the two high school national championships.
Hopefully we will have two more national trophies in our case before the year is out.
Lot's of stuff is scheduled for the upcoming "slow months" including the 2nd Annual No Boat Regatta, 3rd Annual Summer Fishing Tournament and our very popular Friday Night IC sailing.
Launch service now runs till 7 pm.
Get your applications in early for summer camp beginning June 21 running for 8 weeks. Sorry you must be 5 before June 1, 2010 to be a camper this year. more info stycisv@gmail.com and soon on styc.net
New directory will be out in a few weeks
