Commodore’s Race

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

1     RULES

The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing.

2     ENTRIES

Competitors may enter by delivering a completed entry form and paying the $10 entry fee to STYC on 1/24/10. Open to all keelboats and beachcats.

3     NOTICES TO COMPETITORS

Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located at STYC.

4     SIGNALS MADE ASHORE

Signals made ashore will be displayed from the flagpole located at STYC masthead. If a postponement is signaled ashore, the warning signal will be made not less than 30 minutes after AP is lowered.

5     SCHEDULE and CLASS FLAG

A competitors’ meeting will be held at 1000 on 1/24/10 at STYC. The warning signal for the first race will be 1030 for the IC 24’s and Handicap Class. The class flag will be green.

6     RACING AREA

The racing area will be Cowpet Bay and south side of St. Thomas

7     COURSES and MARKS

The course will start between a RC boat and an orange buoy set to port. Leave Orange Buoy placed off  Stragglers to starboard and  proceed to “G1” at lagoon entrance (green Govt mark)  leaving it to port proceed Stragglers leaving it to port and the Great St James Island to port proceed through Current Cut leaving Current Rock to starboard and  to “G1” Buoy leaving it to port, proceed to Stragglers leaving it to port and Great ST James to port and Current Rock to starboard  finish in front of STYC between masthead on shore and starting line pin end buoy to port. Times will be taken from shore.

8     STARTING AND FINISHING LINES

The starting line will be between a Race Committee signal Boat and an orange buoy set to Port and the finish line between the starting line pin-end buoy and STYC masthead on shore. Times will be taken from shore.

9     TIME LIMIT

The time limit for each race will be 3 hours. Boats finishing more than 30 minutes after the first boat that sails the course finishes will be scored DNF.

10  PROTESTS

Protests shall be discouraged. Do your turns. Protests must be submitted within 30 minutes of Committee Boats reaching its mooring. The protest time limit and a list of protests received will be posted on the notice board. Hearings will be held as soon as possible after racing

11  TROPHIES

Trophies will not be awarded but the top 3 places in each class will recognized.
